I was just told of a really good book that's popular in Japan, which was adapted to a movie. It's called Densha Otoko, or "Train Man." It is the story of a man whom we would consider an otaku, or a pathetic nerd that has no life. He meets a beautiful girl on a train and tries to woo her. The book, I've been told, is in the form of a series of postings to Japan's most popular message board, 2chan. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a copy when I'm in Japan.
