| Stupid teachers! - by Gangis |
At 1:30 today I came into class, about five minutes before the interpreters came. I sat at a computer workstation at the front row. The professor came up to me and told me to go sit in a corner at the back, for whatever reason he didn't tell me. I did as told and took the workstation there, then I told him I wasn't able to read the projector screen. At that moment the interpreters came in and I repeated everything I said through them. Apparently the "good" doctor didn't want other students to get "distracted" by the interpreters. I calmly told him "I have the right to sit in the front, pursuant to an article in the Handbook for Teachers of Students with Disabilities which stated quite clearly tht a hearing impaired student has an undeniable right to choose preferrential seating where the interpreters and the screen would be in clear view. But he was so stubborn, and I emphasized, quite politely, that I deserved the same rights as other students, and he started getting very aggressive. I have never met somebody so pigheaded, so bigoted and messed up in the head. The interpreters and I immediately left the classroom and hightailed it to the disability office. I have started a process in which they will attempt to contact Dr. Osborne and inform him of my rights, what he can do and cannot do. If he continues to resist, the dean, provost and even the president of the university will get involved. Gotta love justice, eh? Update Update #2 I suffered through another 3 hour class with Osborne again, and this time he merely ignored me. It went all right, but he's still such a lousy teacher with nonexistent organizational skills. Then today, I was sitting in the hall "overviewing" (as he likes to call it) the textbook when he walked by and told me, with an obvious fake smile, that I was early. I told him "Yeah, I had nothing to do so I decided to do some study time." and he let me in the lab. He immediately tried to get me to sit in the workstation at the far end of the row. I politely told him I'd rather sit near the front, because of the interpreters. He compiled, thankfully, because he knew he'd be in some serious borscht if he pulled the same shit. I did some more studying, but being alone with the teacher I despise most didn't sit well with me, so I told him I'd be right back when the lab started. I came back and he was exceptionally more polite for some reason, even helping me with my lab attaché. It went okay, but I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's 4 hour class/lab. At least now he knows I mean business. Warning to all of you who read my blog... I'm a very patient and nice guy, but when you get me pissed off, I get PISSED OFF and you, your children and your children's children will live to rue the day. (empty threat, maybe... but not so empty especially considering you've read what I managed to accomplish while in a state of über pissosity.) |
