| Parking - by Gangis |
Parking at the University of Central Florida is a big game. It is a game involving the Haves and the Have Nots. The Haves are lucky enough to either get to their space early or pull into a freshly liberated space before anyone else got in. Then there are the Have Nots, which slowly circle all the levels of the parking garages, asking random people that walk by if they were going to class, or just coming back. If they reply that they are returning from class, the next question asked by the Have Nots is always this: Where did you park? Most of the Haves will point out a general direction of where their car is. If they point somewhere behind you and you're lucky enough to not have any car behind you, you quickly slam into reverse and hope that you don't either undershoot or overshoot your mark. You watch the Have as they get into their car on the soon-to-be-liberated space. If a car approaches from the other direction, there is only one thing to do. You quickly flip the signal lever, the blinker marking your territory with a blinking yellow light. Fortunately, there is a code of parking ethics here at the University. Whoever signals first gets the space. As soon as the Have pulls out of their space and is transformed into a Have Not, you transform from a Have Not into a Have. And the cycle repeats itself... Here are a few rules for driving and parking at the University: Driving in Orlando is fundamentally different from where I used to live, and it takes some getting used to. I'm not very thrilled with the way some of the people here act behind the wheel. It's something that takes some major getting used to... |
